| Tools to Get You Started in Scrapbooking
Here is a quick list of some of the basic tools you will need for your scrapbooking projects........
Album Types
Post Bound.
Advantage: Easy to use. Can expand to include
more pages. Incorporates page protectors to allow
protection from excessive handling. Continuous
flow between two-page layout designs.
Disadvantages: Posts need to be removed to insert new page protectors.
Strap Hinge.
Advantage: Can add more pages. Page protectors
available. Continuous flow between two-page
layout designs.
Disadvantages: Pages are front and back. Can be
confusing to re-hinge.
Spiral.
Advantage: Lays flat
Disadvantage: Usually no page protectors.
Pages can tear free. Pages are front and back and not removable (can’t change page order)
Binder.
Advantage: Easy to use. Can change order of
pages easily. Lots of room for 3D embellishments.
Lays flat.
Disadvantage: Must use page protectors. Binder
rings can interrupt page design in double-page
layouts.
Accordian.
Advantage: quick and clever design for small
gift album. Continuous flow between pages for
layout designs.
Disadvantage: Usually no page protectors, number of pages is limited. Uses front/back design and not removable. Because book folds upon itself, can’t use too many 3D embellishments.
Basic Tools
Writing tools.
Basic: Acid-free, fade proof pen/marker in
basic neutral color (ie: Black).
Additional: Colored markers, erasable pens/pencils,ABC stickers, stamps, rub-ons,
computer programs
Cutting tools.
Basic: Personal Trimmer. Small scissors.
Additional: Exacto knife. Coluzzle. Specialty
scissors. Punches. Circle cutters.
Adhesives.
Basic: Double-sided tapes/mounting tabs.
Glue Sticks.
Additional: Metal/plastic glues. Glue dots.
Refillable tape rollers. Glue pens.
Pop dots. Embossing tape/sheets.
In addition to these basic tools you will need:
• Scrapbook
• Photos and/or memorabilia
• Cardstock and/or printed papers.
In time, you may want to add other accessories to decorate your pages like:
• stickers
• ribbon
• fiber
• brads
• eyelets
